About the Name

THE NAME, GAIA.

Gaia is the name of the Greek Goddess “Mother Earth”.

The Gaia Movement has taken its name after the Gaia hypothesis, which was formulated by James Lovelock.

The Gaia theory is a scientific theory developed by the NASA scientist James Lovelock, about Earth being a single living super-organism with all systems and living organisms working together to keep a stable balance of climate and basic life conditions. In this theory, topics of interest include how the biosphere and the evolution of life forms affect the stability of global temperature, ocean salinity, oxygen in the atmosphere and other environmental variables that affect the habitability of Earth.
